Laurel Community Garden

Workshops

"Let's Talk Trash!"  is a hands-on experience that looks at what our waste is, where it comes from, and where it goes once we "throw it away."  We also focus on ways we can change our habits and routines to live more collectively healthier lives. It's a great introduction to zero waste for any age!

ReUnion is a project that provides safe spaces to remember the ancestral traditions and technologies that allow for collective wellness. We envision a present and future where interdependence is practiced and humans no longer participate in systems that are sustained by extraction and violence.

Neither ReUnion or The Garden are 501 c3 non-profits and we don't intend to be. We've been funded by time, talent, mutual aid, reparations and fellowship awards from StopWaste, Parenting for Liberation, Intersecting Lines, and the Brotherhood of Elders.

AKA "The Garden" has long been a sanctuary in East Oakland maintained and visited by homeschool groups, foragers and neighbors.  It is home to native and introduced plants, pollinators, and animal relatives.

The Garden's existence is a testament to what can happen when people choose to care beyond the concept of land ownership (because no one can really own Earth).

Recognizing its legacy and the need for spaces like it to be preserved, and continued, especially for Black and Indigenous families and community members, we are asking for folks to help us make The Garden's functions intentional and recognizable.
